Outdoor Wooden Playset Makeover

Next up in our backyard makeover for the kids, is transforming the typical outdoor wooden playset into a bright, fun space for the kids to enjoy. Our previous home had a very limited back yard play area. We had a nice sized patio and room to run and play, but we didn’t have space for a playset. With having five kids, I really wanted them to have something in the backyard they could enjoy so when searching for our new home, we really wanted a large backyard for the kids to have a large play area. We are thrilled that we were able to surprise them with this outdoor wooden playset makeover.
Check out the before:
The paint featured in this outdoor wooden playset post was sponsored by Sherwin-Williams, however, all opinions are my own.

We closed on our new house and before we moved in, we ordered the backyard playset and we were thankful that they offered installation because we knew we would be busy packing up the house and we wanted to have extra time to be able to paint the playset. They installed it in a few hours and we were ready to get started with this backyard wooden playset makeover!
My husband started by taping off the bolts, handles, and removing the swings and slide. The taping part was the most time consuming and tedious work of this project. He had borrowed a paint sprayer for the playhouse, so he used it for the playset as well. It took two coats of primer, and he did two coats of exterior latex paint to ensure that it could hold up to kids playing.
Just like with the playhouse we had built, we chose Sherwin-Williams paint and used their Emerald Exterior Latex Paint in the color Pure White. I love the Pure White color because it’s literally a pure white, but it’s not too bright on eyes in the sun. It’s a crisp white, and the playset looks SO good sitting beside the playhouse! For the roof, we chose their Tricorn Black which is their basic black. It’s a rich color that provides a really nice contrast to the Pure White color, and it coordinates perfectly with the black shingles on the playhouse.
The playhouse and playset were built as a surprise for the kids, and the reveal was such a special day! We had been waiting nine years to have the space for this! We blindfolded them and brought them out to their new backyard. When we told them they could look, they stood in shock taking it all in. Then my oldest son said “The first one down the slide wins” and they raced towards all the fun. Watching them run and play has been so much fun, and all the efforts of coordinating and saving for these projects were worth it!

I hope you love this outdoor wooden playset makeover as much as we do. It’s been so great for all my kids, who are ages eight to 20 months. If you haven’t already, check out the outdoor playhouse plans I shared yesterday and our outdoor playhouse decorating ideas.

Which swingset is this? I’m looking for one just like it!
Can I ask if you anchored this playset in, and how?
Hi! I would LOVE to know what roof products you used on your playset. We are doing a makeover currently and we are struggling with what to use on the roof. I love yours!
