One of the elements that attracted me to our new home was the hardwood floors throughout. They are a beautiful natural oak stain and they flow throughout all the living areas, dining room, and kitchen. I’ve loved watching my kids enjoy playing on them but realized quickly that I needed a plan for how to care for our new floors. Read on to learn how to care for hardwood floors day-to-day and over time.

I polled my personal friends on Facebook to learn how best to care for my new hardwood floors and the overwhelming response was that I needed a Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner. Having not had hardwood floors in the past, I had never used one. Now I see why everyone loves and trusts it to clean and protect their floors! Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner is a gentle, yet effective solution to remove all of the dust, dirt and grime that is inevitable in our household of seven!

Using cleaning products that are healthy and safe for my family is important to me. Often times, families will choose to use DIY cleaners (like vinegar and water) because it is safe for the family. However, these solutions can damage the finish of the floor. Bona gives you the best of both worlds! It is GREENGUARD GOLD certified, making it perfectly safe for the family while still being effective on your unwaxed, polyurethan finished wood floors.
I love how quick Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner dries, making mopping a breeze! It also doesn’t leave a residue, like traditional soap and wax tend to leave. I can simply pull it and clean when there is a mess, and it makes day-to-day cleaning a breeze!

HOW TO CARE FOR HARDWOOD FLOORS
DAILY
Giving your floor a daily dusting with a microfiber mop is the best way to defend your floor against scratches and surface damage. It is a great alternative to sweeping (which tends to just push the dirt around.. and who wants to carry around the dust pan!?) because the static electricity traps all of the dirt and dust.
Tip: To make your daily dusting easier, cover your high traffic areas with protective mats. Choosing the right mat is important, as some rubber-backed mats can hold moisture and end up damaging your flooring. Natural rubber rugs with a waffle pattern are the best to help further the lifespan of your hardwood floors. These mats capture a good amount of the dust and debris, which leaves less on the floor for you to dust!

WEEKLY
Mop the floors weekly with Bona, which picks up the dirt out of trouble areas like the corners of the room and spaces in between the hardwood that a daily sweep may not always be able to reach.
Tip: Being gentle with your floors is essential to keeping the hardwood beautiful and bright. Traditional vacuums can damage your floors with its wheels or beater bars. Traditional mops and steam cleaners often use too much water, which can leave long-term damage (like cupping!) Mopping with a light mist of Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner is enough to do the trick.
MONTHLY
Polish the floor at least every two to three months. Bona fills in the tiny scratches and evens out the finish, keeping your floor renewed and refreshed!
Tip: Depending on the traffic in your home, you may want to consider polishing your floors more often.
YEARLY
Scheduling a deep clean on our floor every 3-5 years is a great way to really make the floors shine! Sanding and refinishing your hardwood replaces the protective finish, giving you the look and feel of brand new hardwood flooring.
Bona is the best solution for providing a complete clean by gently and effectively removing dust, dirt & grime. Just to note, Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner is not meant to be used on another flooring, however, they offer a Stone, Tile & Laminate cleaner you can use!
I hope this will help you keep your hardwood floors clean and shiny! We certainly love ours! Thanks for stopping by today, if you are planning to move soon, check out my tips for moving a house! Here’s a pin to save for later!
