As a parent, one of my goals is to make sure my children are each meeting or exceeding their developmental milestones. As a mom of five, I’ve seen firsthand how every child is different. They all have different learning styles, different interests, different personality traits, and they even approach playtime in different ways. Today I’m excited to partner with expert pediatric therapists to share with you some ways you can help your child meet developmental milestones from age two to age 10, and all through using fun educational toys!

As I mentioned in an earlier post about how pediatric therapy helped our son with developmental delays, we saw first hand how the right tools can help your child develop in many ways. Today I’ve partnered with the expert pediatric therapists at Pediatrics Plus to share the best educational toys to help your child reach their developmental milestones. These are not only fun and interactive, but they can be excellent tools used in your home for learning as well!

Following is a list of toys that will help your child develop important skills and reach developmental milestones, and the therapists from Pediatrics Plus share just how each toy helps your child. All of the toys below are available and utilized at their Developmental Preschool, and they are now open for enrollment for the Fall semester!

Alphabet Nesting and Stacking Blocks – Age 2-4

Not only are these blocks great to help teach and spell basic words but they can assist in Gross Motor Development as they stoop and recover their leg muscles are strengthened. The fact that they are nesting and stacking helps develop problem-solving skills and hand/ eye coordination. I love that each brightly colored block has a letter along with pictures to help teach letter sounds.

Alphabet Learning Mat with Wipe-Off Crayons – Age 4+

In my opinion, you can’t start kids learning to write early enough! This is great tool for my preschool aged kids, but also great for my Kindergartener who is perfecting the art of handwriting. This easy to clean mat helps handwriting skills, fine motor development, and cognitive motor development as well. I love that there are also graphics to help with letter sounds. Learning ABCs early too? BONUS!

This is another favorite because we love maps in our home! This puzzle provides an opportunity for active play, it develops problem-solving skills and it works on Motor Planning. It also helps teach geography as there are lots of details about each state on the puzzle pieces!
