Gingerbread Decorating Party Ideas

My beloved Grandmother lived on Gingerbread Lane for 45 years, so we have a family tradition to host a Gingerbread Decorating Party each year with the cousins so I thought I would share these ideas with you! This is a highlight of our holiday. It’s a great creative outlet for the kids, they get to eat sweet treats, and play with their cousins. After theyve finished decorating their houses they can either take them home to display, or eat them! We like to do a craft as well. This year the kids made gingerbread ornaments. I love that everyone has something to bring home and hang on their tree.
For decorations, I used a red and white table cloth with a red striped table runner both on the decorating table and the food table. I have collected several festive bowls and cake plates to use for all the various toppings and treats we offer. I found the cutest peppermint plates years ago at Michael’s, but I saw some this year at Target! Hobby Lobby has great paper products, and that’s where I found the peppermint shaped napkins and fun straws.
I purchased gingerbread houses for all the kids, along with a variety of different toppings such as marshmallows, sprinkles, peppermints, candy canes, and gum drops. We serve hot chocolate for all the kids. For the menu this year we were looking for very simple so we found a gingerbread cake and cupcakes at the local bakery, along with a yummy chocolate cake a neighbor made for us as a surprise. We play Christmas music, the kids decorate and have fun making their craft, and all the adults have fun catching up and helping the kids.
It’s a messy, but very fun, memorable tradition!

I would love to do this next year when my LO is a bit bigger!
