Christmas in the Playroom: Fun, Whimsical Playroom Christmas Decorations

Now that you’ve had a peek at four of the rooms in my home, you may be wondering where all the fun décor is for my kiddos. I have collected gingerbread Christmas décor for years. My beloved Grandmother raised my mom and her siblings on Gingerbread Lane here in my home town. Our entire family loves to decorate with gingerbread each year. Since we now have a large playroom, I knew all the gingerbread decorations had to go there. I can’t wait for you to see the playroom Christmas decorations that turned into quite the Gingerbread – Land of Sweets wonderland that my kids loved!

You may remember that we recently revealed a newly designed and renovated playroom. We used lots of bright colors and their wooden toys and their preschool art as decorations. I exchanged those things for all of the gingerbread décor I’ve accumulated over the years. Their bookcases were filled with colorful candy-shaped décor, gingerbread houses, gingerbread-themed nutcrackers, and of course gingerbread men.
Probably my favorite element of our playroom Christmas decoration was having the space to create a Gingerbread Village. I’ve collected these gingerbread houses from Cracker Barrel each year and I thought the space under the TV was perfect to create a little whimsical village. When they are lit up at night they bring such a festive, holiday feel to the room. The kids helped me decorate with brightly colored bottle brushed trees and little miniature gingerbread figurines. I used strands of glittery candy garland to finish off the look. Is it even Christmas without some type of garland in each room?

We’ve used this slim, 7-foot tree for the past few years as the Gingerbread tree. It’s getting a little shabby and each year we must add more lights over the original that are still attached to the tree. Does anyone else do this? We try to get away with it as long as we can, but this year is probably the last year we can pull it off without it being noticeable! But the size is perfect for this space. I always handle the ribbon on this tree, and the kids handle all the ornaments. I usually go back and adjust some of the ornaments but this time I left them as is, and I love it in all its imperfectly placed ornament glory. If you are a perfectionist, I encourage you to do the same… it’s very freeing at times, ha!
I loved these large candy canes I found at Hobby Lobby a few years ago. I like to also hang a few ornaments with them in the window. I used pink iridescent ribbon to tie both the red and pink elements in the room together.
I exchanged our brightly colored pillows for red velvet and white fur pillows and loved the rich look and cozy feels. I found this Gingerbread Santa painting years ago and always love hanging it during Christmas. You might notice Santa is holding a little Gingerbread family of 8 that represents our family and our beloved Labrador named April.

Over on the other side of the playroom, I hung another strand of the candy garland around the chalkboard. I added a few little gingerbread people to the bookcases, and I created a fun little gingerbread scene on the chalkboard.

I hope you loved my whimsical playroom Christmas decorations. This room was so fun to decorate with the kids and I love that they have a fun, playful space to spend during the holidays! Next up is the final post in this series, my Holiday Home Decor Tour where I’ll share more aspects of my holiday home décor including a full tour and look at views I haven’t shared yet in this series! I love seasonal living and these decorations are perfect! All of the gingerbread decor and that slim tree just work so well together. I definitely keep adding more to the tree to to fill it as well. I’m hoping I can get one or two more years out of it. 🙂
