Homemade Biscuits with Easy Bacon Gravy

As a Southern cook, I think one of the most perfect brunch dishes is homemade biscuits with easy bacon gravy!  Add some eggs, fresh fruit and a hot cup of coffee and this brunch idea is perfect for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day or any occasion. It is easy, hearty, and sure to please a crowd.

I’ve shared my recipe for these homemade biscuits with you before, and they continue to be favorite in our family. In addition, I have shared this easy sausage gravy recipe, but recently we’ve been enjoying this mouthwatering Bacon Gravy from Pioneer. This yummy gravy is a cinch to mix up which makes meal prep so easy.

 

The Best Homemade Biscuits

There are a few key tricks to getting the perfect, layered, golden, fluffy homemade biscuit. Once you learn my technique, (and the secret method!), you will be cooking like a pro!

Cook Time 12 minutes
Total Time 27 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1134 grams AP or Pastry Flour (2.5 lbs)
  • 21 grams Salt (.75 oz)
  • 57 grams Granulated Sugar (2 oz)
  • 57 grams Baking Powder (2 oz)
  • 397 grams Unsalted butter, very cold (14 oz)
  • 710 ml Milk (1.5 pint)

Instructions

  1. Sift the dry ingredients together, making sure they are blended thoroughly.
  2. Cut butter into small pieces. Cut in butter into the dry mixture. It should look mealy; do not over mix.
  3. Add the milk and stir, combining only until the mixture holds together.
  4. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured work surface; press the dough together until it forms a mass, approximately five or six times.
  5. Press out the dough to a thickness of 1/2 inch, in rectangle shape.
  6. Fold the dough in half. Fold the dough in half again. Press dough down to 1/2 inch thickness again.
  7. Cut with a floured 3-2 inch cutter and place the biscuits on a paper-lined sheet pan with edges almost touching.
  8. Brush tops with egg wash, milk or cream.
  9. Bake at 425ºF until the tops are light brown, the sides almost white and the interiors still moist (10-12 minutes).
  10. Remove the biscuits to a wire rack to cool.

Easy Bacon Gravy

Add the Pioneer Smoky Country Bacon Gravy and you have an easy, scrumptious breakfast that will please your family and guests alike. This recipe is so easy, Dad and the kids could put it together to make Mother’s Day that much more special for Mom. 

I love Pioneer’s Bacon flavor of gravy because it has the perfect hint of smokiness to it, in addition to a delicious bacon flavor. It’s as if I had smoked our bacon all day to produce this easy gravy mix.

Ingredients

  • o ½ cup water
  • o Pioneer Smoky Country Gravy Mix
  • o 1 ½ cup boiling water
  • o Bacon (use on the side or crumble for a quick topping!)

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, add 1 ½ cups of water and heat to a rapid boil.
  2. Whisk one packet of Pioneer Smoky Country Bacon Gravy into a ½ cup of water.
  3. Add the Gravy mixture into the boiling water, whisking vigorously.
  4. Remove from heat.
  5. Your gravy should be a nappe consistency, which means thick enough to coat the spoon.
