Since I started culinary school and added even more kitchen supplies, tools, and ingredients, my kitchen has seemed out of sorts and it has made things harder to find when I need them. I finally sat down and went through The Container Store website to plan to organize all my kitchen drawers and cabinets, and I am so excited about all the tools I found. Organization tools are like fresh school supplies, they make me all giddy inside!
DECLUTTER AND REMOVE EXCESS ITEMS
The first thing we did was to remove items we no longer need and pare down on the duplicate items. We went through each drawer and cabinet and created boxes to donate, recycle, and throw away. This included getting rid of extra food storage containers, extra sippy cups, and serving ware I haven’t used in years.
CREATE A KITCHEN ORGANIZATION PLAN
Once I knew how much extra space I had, I measured the interiors of my cabinets and drawers and made a plan for the storage items that would make most sense. Measuring can seem like an extra step, but it will save you time in the long run by not purchasing unneeded items! One of the items I realized I needed when planning a wooden stool that is great to have for those hard to reach shelves and cabinets.
ORGANIZE SILVERWARE AND UTENSILS
My silverware and utensils were previously a mess, and I found this Expandable Bamboo Utensil Tray and Expandable Bamboo Silverware Tray that fit my drawers well (especially with the expandable function). Now each item has a place and I love the color of the bamboo in my white drawers.
ORGANIZE BAKING AND KITCHEN SUPPLIES
I love the iDesign Linus Shallow Drawer Organizers because they are modular, and I was able to situate them differently in each drawer per our needs. There are now compartments for bag clips, sandwich cutters, and small tools as well.
STORAGE SOLUTIONS FOR LIDS
One of the most annoying items in my kitchen are the lids for our pots and pans. I found several options for storing them, but for my space, I loved these Lid Holders that attach to my cabinet doors.
DRAWER ORGANIZATION
Does anyone else have the bottomless pit drawer that make finding the sippy cup lid impossible? Just me? I found the perfect solution to help keep my deep drawers organized. I love these 4″ Expandable Drawer Dividers that are clear and help keep my cups in order.
You may also have issues with your towel drawer. I started rolling my towels and found I have so much more space, and I keep them tidy with these Bamboo Drawer Organizers.
CABINET ORGANIZATION
I have larger cabinets that have open vertical space that was previously unused. I found these tall chrome cupboard shelves that are sturdy and saved me so much space. These shelves come in several sizes and would be great for bathroom and laundry storage as well!
UNDER SINK STORAGE
I’m a bit obsessed with our under-sink storage. We used this Chrome 2-Tier Sliding Organizer that is rust resistant and provides the perfect space for tools like sponges, dish brushes, cleaning solutions, trash bags, etc. I also love this iDesign Linus Large Divided Tote to store cleaning supplies. It can be picked up easily to use in cleaning other spaces.
COFFEE STORAGE
Is coffee storage a thing? It certainly is in our home. We have the cutest coffee bar under our stairs and the drawer has always been a big mess with our sweetener packets, coffee filters, and other beverage tools. I utilized drawer dividers and now have a space for everything, which leads to a much happier morning!

What is the best way to organize a kitchen?
The best way to organize a kitchen is to maximize the space with how you or your family will use it. I’ve organized our kitchen for how our family uses the space, but that might look a little different for someone else. My best advice is to make a plan for each drawer, cabinet and your pantry that pairs the items where they will be accessed most and store our less used items in the hard to reach places or the cabinets that aren’t in the most trafficked locations in your kitchen.
How do I organize my kitchen layout?
When planning the layout for our kitchen cabinets and drawers, we placed items that need to be located closer to our main appliances like to the refrigerator, stove, oven, and sink. For example, our cups are next to the refrigerator. Our towels and oven mitts are located in drawers next to the oven. Our cooking utensils and silverware are located on both sides of the stovetop. We keep cleaning supplies, paper towels and trash bags under the sink.
How should I organize my kitchen countertops?
One of the easiest storage solutions I utilized when we first renovated our kitchen was to put the most used items in containers on our kitchen countertop. You can find fresh fruit in serving bowls and I store our sugar, flour, pancake mix in hocking glass jars that also double as decorative items on my countertop.
What are the steps for organizing kitchen cabinets?
We have organized kitchen cabinets with our most used items like tableware, cups and bowls, food storage containers, and serving pieces. One item that I love to use for my upper and lower cabinets is a tall chrome cupboard shelf. It maximizes your space and allows for additional storage.
