5 Ways to Create a Dreamy White Master Bedroom

When we purchased this home, I knew I wanted to have a neutral light/white master bedroom. I love a neutral palette in my rooms as its easy to accent for the seasons or holidays. Like the rest of our home, I wanted this space to be light and airy. I also wanted to create an elegant but cozy space where my husband and I could relax and enjoy having a quiet spot in the house to retreat every day. I hope you enjoy our space.

A very special thanks to our partners for this white master bedroom: My Chic Nest | Orian Rugs | Sherwin-Williams

White Master Bedroom Ideas

This is the room before we moved in. The wall color is not bad but its is too dark for my taste and made the room feel smaller.

Here is a look at the room after we painted but before the new bed and furnishings. Already it is lighter and brighter but the bed was really weighing the space down.

When I walked in the master bedroom for the first time, I knew exactly where I wanted to place our bed and I envisioned this very set up. With four windows in the room, this room gets a lot of natural light, which I love. So I knew this room would be stunning decorated in white and neutral tones, with all that light flooding in. Even with the white bedding and drapes, I love that I can change out pillows and accessories to bring in pops of color throughout the year.

WHITE BEDROOM FURNITURE

Let’s talk about this bed first, because it’s most definitely the focal point of the room and such a gorgeous piece. This Sophie bed has been on my wishlist for a long time. I still smile when walking in the room to see it sitting there in all her glory, ha!  The height of the headboard and the bold, elegant lines are the things I love most about this piece. It is the star of the room for sure!

I chose the Emanuel White Luxury Velvet fabric and the color provides just enough contrast from the white walls and linens. They sent me photos of the bed while it was being made and I’m so impressed with how solidly made it is, and the upholstery work is exceptional. I didn’t think it could be more gorgeous than the photos I saw online, but it’s even prettier in person.

I found these white nightstands on sale during the holidays and I love the clean lines but honestly, I’m still looking for just the right pieces to frame the bed. This fun tufted bench is a perfect size and a great spot for putting on shoes. In addition, it brings a little French country touch to the room. I placed an antique chair in the corner that I’ve had for years,  I simply updated it with ivory colored fabric and I’ll eventually have the dark wood painted.

On the adjacent wall, I have a mirrored desk that I received for Christmas a few years ago. I keep a many of my sentimental things here like gifts from the kids and special cards I’ve received over the years. I found the chair a few years ago and I love that the fabric matches the new bed, and the chair swivels… win win! There are plans to create a gallery wall above the desk and I can’t wait to show you when it’s done!

I’m still on the hunt for the right dresser, TV credenza and floor mirror. Once I find those items the room will be more complete and I’ll share an update to this room.

WHITE MASTER BEDROOM RUG

Another item I’ve had my eye on for a while is this gorgeous sculpted Biscay Natural high-low rug. I love this rug, and I love Orian Rugs in general because they offer high-quality rugs with gorgeous designs at an affordable prices. They are also made in the USA which is a huge bonus! I used a similar rug in our living room design and it has held up well to foot traffic from all the kids and dogs.

Because this is an indoor/outdoor rug, it is so easy to clean. You can either spot clean it or simply take it outside and clean with a water hose. Any little spills we’ve had have either vacuumed up or we’ve been able to spot clean. Outdoor rugs are typically not as soft, but this one, because of the sculpted high low pattern, is super soft. I love feeling the softness when I hop out of bed in the morning and it’s the perfect color ivory.

These rugs have been such a great investment that I ordered two more rugs from Orian for other rooms in the house.

WHITE BEDDING

I used a white ruffled bedspread and I love the look. The drop sides add to the elegance factor but it’s also soft and cozy. On the pillows there are three matching euro shams that have the cutest little ruffle detail that I’m seriously in love with! They also have a king sham if you are looking for the wider size, and a matching dust skirt (which is not needed with my bed). I used two large faux fur pillows and a white and pink pom pom pillow in the center. I have two soft throws (pink faux fur and ivory knit pom pom) in the room because you can never have too many!

MATER BEDROOM PAINT COLORS

Like the other rooms in our home, I used Sherwin-Williams paint for our bedroom. As you saw, this room was a darker teal blue color and the Emerald Paint we use covered it easily. We used Dover White in this room and I love that the natural light really shows off the creamy factor. Dover isn’t too yellow so it’s a really good neutral white.

After painting the entire bottom floor of the house, we realized that we really needed to paint the trim. Once it was all painted Pure White it made such a difference in this home. The crown molding in this room is gorgeous now because of that bright white! As I’ve explained before, we use the Sherwin-Williams Emerald Paint line because it is paint and primer in one. It covers more so you don’t need as many coats, which saves both time and money. When you are renovating and redesigning a house, you need ways to save BOTH time and money!

I like having a variety of accents like books, candles, photos, and trays that I can move about my home. On the bench in the bedroom, I used a marble tray, my Vintage Roses book, Kendra Scott candle, and quartz rock. On the nightstands, I’ve used more books, small white trays, candles, and some other run decorative items like the rose tea light holder.
