Disney World Outfits for the Family

When I started planning the Disney Trip that we took two years ago, one of the first things I was excited about was planning festive outfits for our trip. I hadn’t been to Disney since I was a kid, so I was a little unsure of what all we would need, the type of shoes that we should wear, etc. Thankfully, there are a lot of resources out there, but I couldn’t find a lot of family-focused fashion ideas, so I’m documenting our Disney World outfits for the family.
This trip was before I became a blogger, and before I invested in a good camera, but I’m excited to show you the outfits that we loved and you’ll find links to the sources under the photo if I was able to find the item or if I found a similar item. For our trip with kids ages six to one, I wanted comfortable clothing items and shoes but I wanted to be in full Disney style as well!

DISNEY WORLD OUTFITS: COORDINATE YOUR FAMILY
We did not coordinate all of our outfits, but we did coordinate a few and it was so much fun and made for great photos. I love coordinating my kids when we are going places with high traffic because it helps me keep up with them better. Having a large family means I’m often counting kids when we are out in large crowds. Having them all in the same color, or similar outfit makes that so much easier and takes a little stress off of me.
One of the things I knew I had to have as a souvenir was the matching Mickey ears (pictured above). I had been thinking about those ears for months before our trip. I purchased them on site early on in our trip, and they personalized them for me, and a few hours later they were ready to pick up.
For the airport, we wore matching raglan tee’s that I made with iron-on felt and ribbon! But for those that don’t have an interest in making your shirts, I’ve found some very similar options below that you can purchase. As we boarded our flight to Orlando, everyone was staring as our family of six, proudly wearing our Mickey ears, walked down the aisle and I jokingly asked “guess where we’re going?” and everyone chuckled. It was obvious we were headed to the mouse house!

DISNEY WORLD OUTFITS: WEAR A PRINCESS DRESS
Don’t be afraid to pack your child’s costume wear for the trip! It was in my mind from the beginning that I wanted my daughter to get to wear her princess dresses on the trip. I knew she’d want to be more comfortable for rides, so if we had a character meal or a meet and greets, we packed the dress in our large carry-all bag. I simply folded and rolled the dress up and it didn’t take up much room at all! We changed our princess at the park, and she loved getting to wear her dress and twirl around for a bit, and I got these precious photos of her meeting the princesses in style!

DISNEY WORLD OUTFITS: HAVE FUN WITH A THEME
For our day in the Animal Kingdom, I wanted to have a fun animal theme. I found a leopard tulle dress for our princess and purchased matching leopard ears when we entered the park. For the boys, I had a graphic designer create the Mickey icon shape made with animal shapes, in brown and tan colors. We kept getting stopped at the park about those shirts, they really were so cute! My husband wore an ivory tee and khakis, and I wore a green animal print maxi skirt, an ivory tank with a wide leather belt.

I had a seamstress make these princess play dresses which were perfect for playing in the park but still had a Disney element to them. She wore a Cinderella, Arial, and Rapunzel dress made of lightweight cotton and they were perfect for riding rides and having fun!

DISNEY WORLD OUTFITS: GET CREATIVE AND MAKE YOUR OWN
I made several of our shirts and our shoes. For the pirate shirts for the day my boys got to do the pirate experience, I simply cut a design on my Silhouette Cameo machine and used the stencil to paint the design on the shirt. For the shoes, I ordered red slip on shoes and I cut a small Mickey and Minnie icon shape on my machine to use as a stencil and used black fabric paint. Although this is not the best picture, they turned out so cute!

I hope this gives you some ideas on some fun Disney World outfits for your entire family, and some resources to check out as well. If you found this helpful, I hope you will pin so it can be shared with others! Next, head over to part three of this series, Disney World Experiences.
