This berry smoothie bowl recipe is a great option for summer mornings. I started drinking smoothies a few years ago. At first I didn’t know how good they can be and how healthy they are for you. Let me tell you, I was definitely missing out! Smoothies are now a standard part our diets, and I love changing things up and swerving our smoothies in bowls once in awhile. You can easily adapt this to your own tastes and fruit you have on hand or favorite preferences.

Are Smoothie Bowls Actually Healthy?

This berry smoothie bowl recipe combines the health benefits of greek yogurt and protein powder. It is very low in sugar and full of fresh ingredients. The protein will give kids (and adults) a boost during the day, it’s filling, and will help with focus for work or school. The greek yogurt provides great probiotic benefits to help with a healthy gut as well! It’s a win-win for sure! That being said, smoothie bowls are only as healthy as the individual ingredients that you put in them.

Berry Smoothie Bowl Recipe

Creamy, sweet, nutritious and energizing; how can you go wrong? A smoothie bowl is such a quick and easy breakfast option but packs in the daily protein and vitamins needed to have an effective day whether at work or play. You can use ingredients that are low in calories and you can often hide nutritious vegetables like spinach and kale, so you get the benefits but you only taste the sweetness of the fruit! Coming from someone who was hugely skeptical of smoothies, they really are so good!

Simply combine your base ingredients in your blender. I have a ninja bullet that I love! It’s fast and provides for a very blended, almost fluffy consistency. Pour puree mixture in a bowl, and top with your favorite toppings. If you aren’t a fan of greek yogurt, simply use plain yogurt. If you aren’t a fan of strawberry you could use blueberry or another flavor you prefer. I added a dash of chia seeds for the benefit of adding fiber to my diet and I also like a little bit of crunch. You could add several things to this depending on your tastes and nutritional needs.

Ideas for topping smoothie bowls:

  • granola
  • chia seeds (as I used)
  • sliced fruit: banana, berries, peaches, grapes, kiwi, pineapple, mango.. whatever you love!
  • dried coconut flakes (shredded coconut)
  • bee pollen
  • cacao nibs
  • freeze dried fruit chunks or powdered
  • hemp seeds
  • honey
  • nut butter
  • Goji berries
  • raisins
  • dried cranberries
  • mini chocolate chips
  • chopped nuts
  • pepitas

How to you thicken smoothie bowls?

If you like your smoothie bowl thicker, try these tips to create a thicker consistency.

  • Freeze fruit and/ or juices ahead of time.
  • Add a scoop of raw oats or chia seeds when blending.
  • Blend protein powder and/ or greens first.
