A Fun White and Blue Bedroom for your Toddler Boy

If you’ve been following along the past few weeks, you know we are in the midst renovating and redesigning our home, and it’s been so fun to share with all of you! We just finished our white kitchen remodel and we are working on the Living Room design, and today I am so excited to share the updates we made to our son’s room. I wanted to bring in some new elements that are more in line with my now four-year-old and I had so much fun putting together this white and blue bedroom.

Warren had a carousel themed nursery. I wanted to keep the overall theme because he is still my baby boy, but I wanted to update his bedding and some of his furniture too. I LOVE decorating for my children and they love helping me pick out themes for their room. For Warren, I was inspired by the circus, so I brought in fun elements like stripes and dots that reminded me of clown costumes and big top tenting!

The first step was finding bedding that would coordinate with the curtains I had hand-sewed for his nursery. I wasn’t ready to give up those precious blue stripes and dots, nor the amount of time it took me to make them! I found the perfect flannel bedding set from Kohl’s (remember I found so many items for our master bedroom). The flannel duvet cover and sham from Cuddlduds is so soft and cozy and the blue stripes are perfect for little boys! I added a white quilt at the end of his bed for extra layers and warmth in the winter. The blue and white color coordinates perfectly with his drapes. They also had some fun patterns and solids to choose from!

The duvet cover calls for an insert and I chose a down alternative comforter from Columbia that I am SURE will keep him toasty during cold nights plus the varying weights will make it a great piece to transition with the seasons. His bed is now so fluffy and cozy, and will be a perfect place to have family stay during the holidays.

To complete the cohesive look, I switched to these percale sheets by The Big One. I love the clean look of the white, but they come in lots of colors/ patterns. They don’t require ironing and look crisp right out of the dryer, so they are easy to care for and the kids loft the softness! Kohl’s is one of our favorite stores for home goods because they have such a great selection with affordable prices and so many great sales! I know Warren is going to love sleeping in his “new” big boy bed all winter long.

To finish off the look of his new white and blue toddler boy room, I found two antique white nightstands. We had two dark wood furniture pieces painted to match his bed. The paint really helped revived these pieces that were in my first child’s nursery (nine years ago!). The glider chair has also followed me through all my baby boys’ nurseries and holds such a special place in my heart as it carries so many memories of nursing, singing and rocking the boys to sleep. I am hopeful that it will serve us for a few more years as a spot for snuggling and bedtime stories.

Some of the details of the room include round mirrors on each side of the bed. I framed photos of hot air balloons and carousels that my husband and I took when traveling in Italy and Napa Valley. They hold great memories and the carousel images are perfect compliments to the theme. I spray painted the hot air balloon chandelier with white chalk paint (it only took about 15 minutes!) and it looks so good with the blue crystals that tie in the color of the stripes in the bedding and curtains.

I ADORE the special hand painted circus themed artwork that was made especially for Warren’s room by a friend. It adds such a personal touch! I recently found this blue marque “W” initial sign that coordinates with the carousel theme, and I had a friend make these custom pillows that tie in perfectly with the Kohl’s bedding!

The walls are painted a beautiful color Sherwin Williams Dover White that we’ve used in other rooms in our home, which makes a nice neutral backdrop for the other elements. The blue really pops with the white background!
