How to Paint Exterior Bricks the Right Way

When we purchased our home, one of the things was loved was the sunroom. I love the large windows, the breeze coming in along with sounds of nature and the kids playing outside. It’s a peaceful place for me and also a great place to entertain and gather as a family. The exterior brick of the sunroom was a darker tan color. I knew I wanted to brighten the room, but I was nervous about painting it! Thanks to the right tools and the steps we learned, we now have a gorgeous, relaxing sunroom to enjoy as a family. Painted brick is a popular trend right now and it’s easy to see why. The white allows my windows and surrounding nature to be the focal point. I learned a lot about how to paint exterior bricks and it was surprisingly easier than I thought it would be. I’m so glad my friends at Wagner kindly helped show me the right way to their paint tools to make the process easier. I’m thrilled with the end result and it has given my sunroom the look I wanted.
How to Paint Exterior Bricks
The best method, by far, is using a paint sprayer. A roller or brush will be very difficult to achieve a uniform look considering all of the grooves and imperfections with brick. The Wagner FLEXiO 2000 DIY sprayer is a foolproof plan for painting interior walls or exterior bricks. It has 2 speeds and can paint a wall 8 times faster than a brush. You can finish an 8’x10′, surface in less than six minutes! I’m pretty sure I would just be getting my roller or brush ready in that time! It is for big surface projects like walls, exterior siding, and fences. The sprayer holds 1 ½ quarts of paint at a time which can cover up to a 10’ by 12’ wall in just one fill. I was surprised by how far the paint could go in just one use.
The X-Boost® Power Dial has 2 settings for thin and thick materials. I kept mine mainly on the thick setting since I was working on an outdoor project and needed extra coverage. I was so impressed with the new nozzle design. It delivered a spray pattern with adjustable control, less mess, and diminished over-spray.
We all know that painting can be very messy. However, this sprayer cleans up in less than 5 minutes! There are only five parts and they all separate and rinse clean. The cleaning is significantly faster than if I had used a brush or roller. We also painted the porch swing bed with the sprayer and I am already planning more paint projects in the future! I’m excited to share all we learned and how to paint exterior bricks the right way.
